Synopsis of Meg 2: The Trench:
The film begins in the Cretaceous Period, showcasing various predators hunting smaller creatures. A T-Rex is soon targeted by a group of small but lethal dinosaurs known as Snappers. In a dramatic turn, a Megalodon bursts from the water, seizing the T-Rex and dragging its lifeless body beneath the waves.
Fast forward to the present day, where Jonas Taylor (played by Jason Statham) emerges from a shipping container aboard a vessel navigating the Philippine Sea. His mission is to prevent a group from illegally dumping toxic waste into the ocean. After gathering intelligence, he confronts the assailants and, following a fierce altercation, leaps into the water, where he is rescued by Mac (Cliff Curtis) and Rigas (Melissanthi Mahut) via helicopter.
At a marine research facility in China, Jiuming Zhang (Wu Jing) is testing an exo-suit designed for underwater operations. He is the uncle of Meiying (Sophia Cai) and the brother of the late Suyin, with Jonas now acting as a guardian for Meiying. They attend a ceremony at the institute, led by Jiuming’s business partner, Hilary Driscoll (Sienna Guillory). During the event, Jiuming honors Suyin and their father, pledging to advance oceanic research in their memory. He also introduces Haiqi, a captured Megalodon that seems to respond to his commands. Meanwhile, Jonas becomes aware of a suspicious individual named Montes (Serigo Peris-Mencheta) observing him during the proceedings.
