The welds are also cleaner, and you can often use the same fixture and equipment for flux welding for added convenience. They are a valuable machine to be reckoned with and unmatched in the right circumstances.
What can you weld with a 110v welder?
A 110v welder is a great tool for those who want to DIY their own projects around the house. Beginner welders like these machines because they can plug into a household outlet, are lightweight, and inexpensive.
They can be used for some smaller welding tasks such as those found in home improvement and hobby projects. From fixing your car door to making custom jewelry at home, a 110v welder has many uses.
You cannot expect heavy-duty welding with this machine. A 110v welder can weld up to 1/8 inch of stainless steel, alloy steel, mild steel, copper, cast iron, and chrome. Beyond this thickness, you’ll be pushing the limits of the machine. Since it is a small unit, don’t expect it to perform well on thicker stock.
What type of welding processes can you do with a 110v welder?
110v welders are perfect for welding thin metal parts of different materials and sizes. With a versatile 110v welder, you can perform the following types of welds:
- Electric arc welding: The welder creates an electric arc that brings the metal to its melting point quickly for welding. It is the cheapest and most popular system.

Can you convert a 110v welder to 220?
For the thicker stock, you need to convert your 110v welder into 220v, and this can be done using step-down transformers, but I would suggest an autotransformer to convert a 110v welder to 220. An autotransformer is a very cheap solution as compared to a transformer.
Today, many welders are designed to be converted from 110v to 220v with a few minor changes. I have the WeldPro 200. It came with a plug adapter to easily switch between voltages.
